Experience with the HP laptop
Having used the laptop for a few days, here are my general complains, from most irritating to the least. (note: I like the laptop so far, just listing the things I don't like)
- There's a sharp high pitch sound when the laptop is not doing anything. Reading online, it seems that when the CPU goes idle, it goes into power saving mode, and this creates a high pitch sound. It gets very irritating after awhile. Currrent solution. Downloaded a program that prevents the CPU from going into power saving mode. However, this consumes 10% more power. Sigh, guess there's no such thing as a perfect solution for a perfect world.
- I hate norton anti-virus and firewall. There's so much pop-ups from it that it gets so irritating. I think getting a virus is more fun then dealing with norton. Thats how much I hate it. (Norton contributed alot to my next point)
- After starting up the laptop, I understand why people like to use a Mac. There's so much throw at the user when the laptop first starts up that if I don't know anything about computers, I'll be totally lost. There's registration, updates, more updates, even more updates and there's also so much useless programs, like free 30 days Vongo, free 90 days AOL, free 30 days hp games. So much useless programs. I wish that it was like in the past, when my dad first bought me the compaq desktop. You press the power button, and a screen shows welcome. Click a few buttons and you're done! You can start playing with your computer.
- I don't like the mousepad. It's like moving your finger across a metal service. Cold. And sometimes your finger gets stuck. Why couldn't they have used the black plastic material.
- Together with the battery, the laptop weights quite heavy. Sigh. I wish I could get the LIGHTEST and POWERFUL and CHEAP laptop. Even, if I can't, I can always dream right?
- The laptop cover doesn't have a clip to lock the top halve and the bottom halve. You just have to pull open the laptop.
- It doesn't have a PCMCIA slot. Ya, its quite outdated, but still, I wish it had one. I have a PCMCIA smartcard reader, that I wish I could have used together with the laptop.
