It's a sad day
Microsoft cutting up to 5,000 jobs
If you haven't seen the news, you should.. Apparently the rumours been flying around in december and everyone's been feeling the fear. When the news broke this morning with the emails, it's kind of a relief and also sad too.
When i first attended the orientation at Microsoft, i'm alarmed to see 100+ eager faces, just like me that's about to start working in Microsoft as full time. Mind you , that's 100+ ppl every Monday = ~ 400+ a month? That's just Seattle alone. I don't even have the figure worldwide. Which is why when the hiring freeze came about, it's a big deal. At least to me.. No more weekly orientation?
To date, i have yet to hear anyone close that got laid off. But it still sends a shiver down me, knowing that everyone is at risk. According to news, 872 got laid off today in Redmond, that's like 3% of the workforce here.
Apparently, there will be more rounds in the coming 18 months to come.
