It's been a month
Emily is a month old now, which means her newbie parents have survived the first month. It's been rough month but i guess we all made it. Woohoo!!!
Looking back, some of the best sayings i heard:
"Sleep when the baby sleeps":
Yes, sleep deprivation is a serious issue here. Having to wake up to feed her every 3 hours, during which she takes an hour to nurse, another 30mins or more to get her back to sleep when she's fussy, which means, i only get to sleep 1hr 30mins of sleep every cycle if i'm lucky.
Derrick help out by taking over the calming her to sleep part but still, both of us are seriously deprived of sleep. He's going back to work next week, and both of us are worried about that. How that's going to work out if he remains sleep deprived and having to work? Let's hope it will all work out fine.
"Do not have formula at home if you intend to breastfeed":
Yes, if we have had formula at home, we have given in and gave up on breastfeeding. Formula is so much more convenient, daddy can feed her instead of just mummy. Formula keeps baby fuller so that she can sleep longer through the night. And mummy don't have to deal with all the uncomfort with breastfeeding.
And yet, looking at the ingredients of formula, you ask yourself. Are they really good for the baby? Well, you could say that, most of us grew up on formula, and we all turned out well? Didn't we.. But a lot of research show that breast milk have so much goodness for the baby.
We are going to continue breastfeeding for at least now. Hopefully we can tahan until she's 6month old? That's when she's going to start on solid foods.
"Children have a way of making you feel guilty":
Even if they don't cry, you feel the guilt eating you up. There have been couple of times, i overslept and woke up to feed a crying baby that's hungry. Yes, you feel bad and guilty about that.
